It's tomorrow!

And my van's failed on so many points that it's off to the scrapper, so car free day literally. The question is, how many days can I go car-free before I get too hacked off or fall asleep for a month?

PLACE BETS NOW!

Poor van.

Bye bye Munkymobile :c+sad: .

How are you going to transport your boat now?

Sam

You can do it! We've been car free since 1980, just hire one when there's no sensible alternative.

Do you, perchance, live in a town?

Urban living makes a difference. I have a car, which acts mainly as a suction pump on my bank account. It just sits there, doing very little.

We drove up to Knutsford in it because we were too lazy to sort anything else out.

Owning a car in a town is stoooopid.

Your situation is a bit different

BUT

You have a doable bike commute (which will mean you can eat more of the caek you can afford when you're not paying for a wreck), and you can carry your kayak on a trailer. Not easy, but, when it's what you do, you just do it.

How about we do a problem solving exercise - you tell us what you use the Munkymobile for, and we will try to help with solutions. If there are too many things you can't do without one, then you need to get a new van. Job done.

Take the boat as an example. Drive to beach, park up, fuss boat into life, lock stuff away, get changed, go for paddle, return knackered.

Problems with the non-drive version: securing stuff at a random public beach; being knackered before you go out; no rolling beach hut; having to ride back utterly freaking monged.

Anyway, my on-call-ness needs a vehicle. There shall be a New Munkymobile (incredible new Munkymobile! eel! eel!)

I was under the impression that Crediton was large enough to have basic shops etc and within bike range of Exeter, if being on callout makes that a no-no then obviously you need something a tad quicker.
Beach buggy & canoe trailer run on home made ethanol?? :evilchuffy: :evilchuffy: There's a 400cc version of the Madras Enfield Bullet with a cement mixer engine you could run on lipodiesel

Small car and boaty trailer?

That said, the van converted me to van-love, it was just so damn practical :disapprove:

I survived for 7 car-free years in Londres, used the local Car-Club car now and then. Devon's a different kettle of fish, and bus fares are criminally high.

I'd try the car club... but it's only Exeter and Topsham. There's a chance a Creddy limb may form, but not imminently.

It is dawning on me that I mostly used the van - apart from daily-driver - as a roving beach hut.

Beach buggies, motorbikes, motor-trikes and other bizarre mutant vehicles all suck for stuff.

It looks like I'll replace like for like, or near as, with perhaps a bit of a downsize. Bedford Rascal, anyone? 8)

Let's just give it a little ebay tickle and see how it goes.

...sniped by £20. Plenty more fish in the bay.
