It was brought to my attention today that next year's Easter bonk hodilay is right up kissy-close to the May Day bonk hodilay and snugged up in between them is some toff getting hitched, which is yet another hodily for the bonks.

All of which makes it ideal time for taking 11 days off work with only 3 days of leave. Score!

It also might suit a late-spring start LEJOG.

You are planning to reach The Mall in time to wave your ickle plastick Unionjak (TM) as teh Happikuppl (TM) go by on their way to catch a plane to honeymoon in Reno, handy for a quickie divorce before you reach John O'Groats.

Aren't you?

I'll have to check when the schools are off & build a SON Delux front wheel for the 953. I've done JOGHome camping, maybe a LEHome snoring in bus shelters would be fun. How far would I get up country before the traffic started running if I left LE at midnight Saturday and legged it straight up the A30? :badger:

PS. Andy, wouldn't the logistics be easier if you started in Scotlandshire and finished down the road from home? I believe getting back from Land o' Goats is a lot harder than getting up there if you're on a bike. Scotrail are not popular on the CTC End To End boards.

Maybe, but this end of the country is familiar. I wanna head to adventure, not my commute. ;)

Come to Lundin, then you can have adventure on your commute!

Which coast of Scotland then? The west is prettier, has distilleries and a live music circuit in most of the pubs, the east is (allegedly) shorter & quicker. The *OLD* A9 gets a lot of votes.

The West is gorjuss, but maybe the locals can advise too?

I could get quite detoury. I'm already considering swinging across a Severn bridge to do the Wye/Forest of Dean so as to stop by my folks for a pie (and to ride a big bridge and the FoD is pretty, too). It'll be zizagging all over, at this rate.

Severn Bridge and up the Welsh border is fairly mainstream, but beware of some deadly main roads around Telford. Have a look on the CTC Lands End to John O'Groats sub forum. The route expert is Mick F, the chap who recently did it on a chopper.

Belay that advice about the old A9. It's going to be shut in the Dalwhinnie/Newtonmore area for dualling of the new A9 from about now until August. There are ideas about alternatives on the CTC Forum, Mick's working on it I think.

Offer to get him a bottle of cask strength from the Talisker distillery on Skye! (You can't get it anywhere else). :drunk:

Right! Looks like leave is confirmed from 3rd May for three weeks. That makes toffhitchtag (Friday 29th April) the likely start (and handily gives me Easter for a short shakedown cruise).

I'm a spinning roadside sign that's half "Eeeeee!" and half "Arrrrgh!"
