I'm planning on coming down to the start - just look out for the tall bloke with the white fixie - a little before 8.

Got my folks down so we have some stuff to do, so I don't think I'll be there till the end, maybe just till about 9, but means I should be able to ride to a couple of different points on the cycle route and get some piccies.

Anth, I'm going to PM you my mobile number in case of any unexpected eventualities.

Of course, you may want to go take piccies anyway.

Thanks for the maps!

Sam

Well, if I'm going to make this race I have 5 minutes to get the car packed.

As Frood is still snoring, I don't think it's going to happen :disapprove: .

I think there comes a point where you have to accept that doing two triathlons on consecutive weekends may not be beyond your physical capacity, but it's currently beyond your physical capacity for enjoyment. And, at the end of the day, it's supposed to be fun.

The sea is beautifully calm but it's raining and the barometer is dropping and I can't really say I have much gusto for competing in another cold, wet race this year.

Especially not on two hours sleep :? .

Hope you get some good photos for the mag, Anth.

Sam

Yip, t'was cold and wet - has kinda got me wondering though...

The bike speeds of all but the elite guys didn't worry me at all (cycling about for pics I consistently caught people - okay, hadn't done the swim, but also hadn't had breakfast....).

By the way Sam, did you get my PM? I'm not convinced it went - had my mobile number in it.

Piccies in the gllery in a moment (not bad, considering they probably haven't done the prize giving yet....)

I don't know what the field was like, but:

(a) Try cycling fast immediately after a 750m sea swim. It's a whole different ball game.

(b) Portobello attracts people relatively new to triathlon.

(c) As far as I can tell, it's the running that makes the difference anyway.

I was quite happily living in ignorant bliss there Sam...

Realism bit after I posted that - still fancy trying it at some point I think....

You want to add your name to the TLS roster for the New Year's Day? That's very much a novice triathlon, that one. Swim's only 400m. You can practise the bike leg loads in the meantime - 3 times round Arthur's Seat.

Now that sounds like a plan. When do entries open?

Hmmmm.... Fixed round Arthur's Seat would be an interesting 3 times spin! Might have to get the geared up and running for that.

Is the run once round Arthur's Seat?

I think entries usually open in October, and it fills up pretty damn quickly after that.

You wouldn't be allowed to race on fixed anyway.

it's 3 times round the Seat on the bike then once on the run, after the crazy-ass zig-zag swim in the Commonwealth.
