The race isn't likely to take me any longer than an hour and a half.

Either 0800 or 0820 depending on which wave I'm in.

I shall be cheering on a 50 year old trying to make it round corners without spinning... and trying not to giggle when there's a panic about whether it's necessary to change onto 'wets' as soon as the first grey cloud appears!

But I shall be thinking of you, dear heart!

Wish for plenty of traffic.

Ordinary triathletes hate traffic. They can't get up to speed.

Me, I love traffic  . Traffic jamming is my favourite sport. As long as everyone has to deal with the same amount of traffic I'll be grand.

Oh! And calm seas.

I'm rubbish at swimming in choppy water.

Good grief, woman! That's real water, without a side to hold on to and of a depth where you can't put your feet on the bottom and have the head above water most likely!

Knowing what I do about the water in the Forth, it likely only looks like gravy  .

I suppose the positive of that is if you see something floating your way it may make you swim faster...

Okay, an attempt to give you some insider info (of course you may know the area perfectly - as it happens you pass within 200 yards or so of my house and part of the cycle route is part of my long route to work...)

Firstly the ride.

Mapped here.

The High Street in Portobello is normally quite busy, so you might have some traffic jamming, but to be honest it'll be minimal at that time of the morning. The majority of the route is on wide main roads whee the biggest issue is buses cruising past then pulling in.

First left turn takes you onto Fishwives Causeway and basically round the back of an industrial estate. Sir Harry Lauder Road is a very main road, 40mph limit, but not often recognised. The road surface is not good, just rough and occasionally rutted, and the end bit to the junction with Milton Road isn't really a hill, but is a pain.

The junction with Milton Road used to be a roundabout, which would have been easier, but is now a set of lights (which apparently are 'safer' for us). The road down from here is great. Milton Road is wide, pretty smooth, and gradually downhill.

But as the instructions say, watch out for the lights at the bottom. You'll see them from a good distance to get set for the sharp left turn back onto the main Porty street. Here you'll likely have a headwind, but the road is more or less level.

(the elevation on that map is about right).

Run route to follow!

The run is a simple out and back.

No gradients. If the weather is nice it will be BUSY. However I don't think it goes nearest the narrowest part of the Prom. You will, however, run past a kids playground so there might be rugrats wandering about.
