Poached from Elsewhere. Hummers evidently hasn't got around to announcing it here:

Quote:
Who fancies a weekend of cycling and walking down on Dartmoor then?

Circular ride on one day out from Princetown along gravelly but lumpy routes - mostly off road. This might be two routes - one longer than the other for those who want to stay longer at the Royal Oak at Meavy.

Bracing stroll on the other day to the north of Princetown out to Tavy Cleave and Fur Tor.

Staying at the bunkhouse, or camping at Princetown (Plume of Feathers Inn) on the Saturday night for drunken debauchery.

November 5th/6th.

Cheers Sam.

Here are some pictures what I took myself when out on the moors with my lad a couple of years ago.

Just to give you a flavour of the place.

Good news!

According to my calculations Frood is free that weekend as well.

Less good news!

Frood has discovered that the Polysics are playing the Zodiac in Oxford on the 4th.

Polysics, three mysterious characters, half animal, half machine, transported back through time from Neo Tokyo making music that will flatten cities, drain oceans and split atoms. So powerful is their music that on hearing it, normal people (i.e. you and I) have been known to believe the earth has moved, it has not, merely the sonic attack which is Polysics has shaken the Earth from it’s elliptical orbit causing fissures in time and space. Believe!

He's a big fan. I'd feel terrible about making him miss it.

However. I'm hoping that we can arrange to go to Oxford for the gig and then come back at some godsawful time on the Friday night, or possibly horrendously early Saturday morning. So what time is all this Dartmoor thing kicking off?

I guess we'd meet up on the Saturday morning at about 10ish.

Otherwise, some of us might be there on Friday night.

Hokay.

Well the Polysics gig depends on whether his Froodliciousness can get the Friday after noon off. If we can't get to Oxford for 7:30 then we won't be going at all.

I have your mobile number. I will be there at some point over the weekend.

Is there a quick reply on this forum? Lizzy is busy on the saturday so will be coming up in the evening, Hummers has promised us a disco (amongst lots of other things i'm trying not to think about). I'll be there on the saturday morning.

Hummers are you bringing the mobile halls? My tents here but the poles are in Bartley still, and Lizzy's tent is one portly man/two midget size.

Bomber,

Looks like the disco is off on the Saturday evening but I will be performing the "Dance of the Flaming Assholes" instead.

Hope this helps.

Oh, you will need to get hold of your own poles or I'm sure we can squeeze you somewhere.

Sorry, squeeze you in somewhere.

Errr, so to speak.

That is the bloody stupid sort of thing my son would do.

No, I don't mean that.

I mean this:

Search for the word 'flaming'.

Well, how did it go? The weather looked pretty shocking.

Dearest Hummer's dulcet tones on the telefelone made me feel as sick as a parrot that I was missing it.

Despite apalling weather, the ride on the Saturday was really good and 5 of us managed to get out on an 8 mile walk on the Sunday.

A great weekend.

The only down side was the attitude of the new owners of The Plume of Feathers, Princetown. I've been going there for 27 years but while that bad mannered, rude and frankly dreadful landlady is there, I'll be going elsewhere.

It's also gone downhill in terms of facilities. James Langston built it up to be a great pub and to cater for walkers. I'm no fussy, but if I'm paying for showers, I expect showers and a loo seat is not too much to expect, ist it?

She was the rudest and most unpleasant woman I have had the misfortune to meet (for some time).

You were missed, Aunty Samantha.
