Well, we did it. I've posted this on C+, but you lucky people get a few extra details....

Having done the ride last year my attitude to it was fairly relaxed, yes, it was a challenge, but yes of course I could do it...so naturally the combination of headwind, rain, not eating enough in the day and not putting an underlayer on early enough conspired to thoroughly spank me. It didn't help that at the pub, I kept needing the loo. Hmmm, could it be pre-ride nerves? No, it was yesterday's lentil-fest on a mission for freedom, and at the time we had to set off its mission was not quite complete.

The first 50 miles were spent holding in that special kind of trapped wind that results when you're worried "The Nugget" will make an unwanted appearance if you try to prump.

We rolled along to the first tea stop. I stood under an awning, supping tea, inhaling biscuits, feeling grisly. As the rain poured down I contemplated calling it a night. Bernard the Stud (for it was she) suggested that if I didn't finish, I'd kick myself. This was true, so after stuffing in some more tea and food, stared death-by-bonk in the face and just got on with it.

After all, we had promised George the Lobster a trip to the sea and we couldn't let him down.

I actually enjoyed the last 25 miles and refused to take the short cut :D The fact it had stopped raining probably helped.

Am very pleased to report that in spite of the inclement nature of the weather I had no saddle issues, and my frill survived without any chafing so yay! Terry Tri Gel.

Oh, and the Nugget waited until I got home, which was a relief.

Thanks for sharing those 'extra details' with us, Baggy.

Chuffin' 'eck, it was wet. I did suggest that we sacrifice one of Ian's jelly babies over Clifton Suspension Bridge, remember. We didn't, and the Gods were angry. We all got off pretty lightly with a good soaking, I think.
