Just putting this up now so that no one has any excuses for not knowing about it in plenty of time (and you'll have time to spread the word).

Also I'm going to propose some possible route amendments on top of the ones we made on the fly this year. I'll post a route later, and I will be including points of interest (24 hr garages!) so the three hardy souls who made it this year can comment.

Next year there will be spoke cards :smug: .

Good - plenty of time to think up a plausible excuse for my wimpiness

Please let a poor, humble tourer, who thinks 50 miles is a long way, in on the esoteric language....
What are these spoke cards of which you speak.....?

One side has survival notes for handling flooding. The other is silvered and pierced so you can use it as a heliograph to signal to rescue copters. The edge is sharpened for ninja midge swatting...

Needsless to say, RB, I'm in. Unfinished business and all that!

I'm in, if I can get a visa.

Being a soft southerner wot thinks gentle slopes are hills, will I be cruelly mocked if I bring 26 extra gears with me?

Spoke cards are cards you wedge in your spokes, I think they were originally used during messenger events and races to ID competitors but now they are being used more and more as commemorative hand outs at many events, to the extent that people now collect them and even sell them on ebay???. :?

It's a funny old world

After a conversation with our Chairman on Friday, I am shocked and appalled to report he was going to do this on a bike with gears!

  :-s

Bless his little cotton socks, it would seem that the sheer toughness of our little event has reduced him to wanting to stop pedalling now and again!

:-({|=

While it is perfectly understandable, I declare here and now that the damn thing swouldn't be quite so damn personal on a geared bike. Shackleton and I will be reprising the 2007 attempt. And finishing it this time, even if I have to stop at my Mum and Dad's for a wetsuit and snorkel.

I am counting on the fact that it cannot be as wet as this year. I remember the last leg into Kirkcaldy, I didn't need to drink from my bottle as enough water was trickling down my face and into my mouth.

Breathing was a bit more difficult though.
