According to this calculator the night of the 23rd is 1 minute shorter than the 16th.

This time we've got the t-shirt.

Sam (if we get enough riders I might well do shirts)

If I don't get a place on the Mille Alba (1000km of Scottish scenery  ) I will definitely be up for this one and have put it on my calendar.

I think I'm going to have to admit that I am going to have to do the legwork this year. Since RB told me so.

Do we have any input on the route that I can consider then ignore?

Oh! Oh! Oh!

We need to amend the routesheet to avoid arguing over the Croy turnoff and to make sure everyone knows what train station to go to. Also, I'm sure there's a better route down to the beach at St Andrews that we missed last year. There were a couple of other minor clarifications that I meant to do but I can't remember them now and the scribbled-on version of the routesheet is in storage in Fife.

This year: NO SQUEAKY BROMPTONS, PLEASE.

At least they've re-opened the bridge, so I don't have to make the little fat man very angry again!

RB - can you send me the master copy of the route sheet? I think you have my will@ email address.

I don't mind doing the route sheet, although I haven't found the laminator. I've still got heaps left over from the last couple of years because of all the shirkers who said they'd do it and didn't. It's more that it'll be difficult for me to come down to ride the route beforehand, if we wanted to do that, or ride any deviations that we might want to put in (such as the Bladerunner variant posited by Mr 86).

I'll send you the link to the master reference directory.

I had a thought.

What if, instead of touting for extra riders, we go all Norseman on this thing and limit the number of riders to no more than the anniversary number? So as this is DRVI we could say no more than 6. Anyone who has ridden the entire route on a previous year gets an automatic place, anyone else is first come first-placed.

Basically, we usually buy the beer and stuff and I wanted to start putting together end-of-ride munchie bags like wot we get on triathlons, but I wouldn't be able to cater for vast numbers of people unless we started charging, which implies organisation, which implies insurance requirements.

Thoughts?

Sam

Um, how would we all feel about bumping this to the week before? Simon Legg is running a Friday Night London to John O'Groats with an optional extension to Orkney to attend the St Magnus Festival, and I know Munky is contemplating Orkney this year.

Both are fine for me. It would be unexpected to get more than six anyway and I don't plan my life far enough in advance for a change of week to be a problem.

Is the munchie bag a beer and some Haribo?

Also, are we going to have to either rope in someone else to drive the goodie bags out there? Frood would be overly brave to drive from Aberdeen especially for us.

Oh, good point. I shall ask him. He might be able to stay with my parents overnight, but getting an alternative driver would be fantastic. I guess I'm going to have to check train times from Cupar or Leuchars to Aberdeen on the Sunday...

I am beginning to realise how awkward this is going to be to organise now that we're so far up north!

I can probably organise crash space, either at my house or I could probably rope in Kirsty if she is back in the country by then. If it makes life easier I can manage that so you can go home on Monday.

Lifts are harder. I'm not sure anyone who drives owes me that much of a favour. *cough* Puzzle? *cough*

Previous years Frood has driven over to St Andrews to meet us on the Sunday morning with coffee, beer and a few nibbles. He has then given those of us who will fit a ride back to Edinburgh (now you know why I have such a big car).

I was kind of hoping you'd be riding with us this year, though, Puzzle.
