Such as it is.

Revisions to this policy will be in red.

I'm making all members of the Committee moderators for reasons mostly to do with access to sub-fora. I don't expect that there will be much in the way of moderation requirements except possibly in the Announcements forum and maybe if folks want their posts moved from the original posting place. This software doesn't have the option of allowing users to move their own posts.

Swearing is allowed. I have not activated the word-censor and have no intention of doing so. If you object to your small children being exposed to depravity and licentiousness rendered with wit and in detailed prose, I strongly suggest you avoid exposing them to the forum.

In general the moderation policy will be a leave-well-alone approach. With the following exceptions:

No spam. I mean it. If a member happens to have a commercial interest then fair enough to mention it in passing. If members wish to alert other members to a particularly good deal (like the upcoming Pompino deal at On-One) then that's okay. Recommendations are fine. But anything that looks like a member participating for the main purpose of commercial advertisement will be removed, both post and, after warning (see below), membership.

No discrimination. If any member starts making wholesale, sweeping, generalised statements regarding perceived characteristics of sections of the population based on religion, race, sex or hair colour (if only because we've all heard all the blonde jokes) then Words Shall Be Had. But use your common-sense. No one's going to get kicked in the bottom for telling a joke unless it's particularly offensive. Just try to remember this is a Gentleman's Club.

No porn. If I find any pictures cadged from fuckingmachines.com I will delete them. Nudity is fine - there's nothing wrong with the naked body, as long as children aren't involved, for various legal reasons. Links are fine, given the nature of some of our discussions, but PLEASE post a warning on any link that leads to non-work safe material. We do not, however, want to open a thread and find a picture of a naked, breast-enhanced woman taking it up the ass from another woman wearing a 9" strap-on black mamba in full 600x400 technicolour.

No personal insults. I shouldn't have to say this, but saying "The post you just made expresses a pile of steaming codswallop" is not the same as "You are an idiot and you smell of dog poo." I don't expect the Club to attract trolls, but one never knows. We do, however, have the advantage that this is a Club, not a public board, so if a new member turns out not to be suited to the particular ambience of our endeavour we can kick him out.

Apropos of this: accusations of cliqueyness will be met with raised eyebrows and a polite "So?"

Somewhere on this board, accessible only by those with a key, is The Shrubbery. The Shrubbery is a moderation-free, no-holds barred fighting pit, also useful for making those statements you just know are going to piss off someone but feel have to be said anyway. What happens in there stays in there. No one will be there to hold the hand of anyone venturing forth. There will be no sympathy offered to those who enter and end up bruised. The rules about porn and spam still apply, the others do not. The key will only be offered to members who have shown they're not just here to be trolls, because even Gentlemen need to be childish sometimes. I would hope it isn't really needed, but it's nice to know it's there.

Other than that I hope everyone is capable of behaving on his own recognisance. There will be a three strikes policy - anyone failing to observe these simple and inexacting requirements to the point of being politely and publicly warned three times will be put on moderation (not allowed to post) and put for discussion by the Committee.

Discuss

Sam

Looks fine to me.

I'm intrigued by the shrubbery - it sounds like it's intended for fights? Is it supposed to be a bit like the soapbox area on C+?

I wonder if the policy of only allowing responsible members access to it will result in no-one using it, responsible members not being inclined to such activities anyway.

A bit like Groucho saying he wouldn't join any club that would have him.

Anyway, all looks thoroughly reasonable.

As one would expect here.

It's not quite like the Soapbox because there will be no moderation. If any members get into a fight that is deemed ungentlemanly, then said fight will be moved to the Shrubbery. If they choose to continue said fight then there won't be any sticking plasters from Auntie Sam, nor will I pay any attention to bruised egoes claiming foul or trying to engage legal advice. You take your chances along with your key.

Soapbox on C+ is basically a troll magnet. I don't want a troll magnet. The Shrubbery is just where people who are generally decent folk can go and express themselves when they are not feeling particularly decent. Even I just want, on occasion, to tell someone to eff off because he's being a twat. It's good to get it out.

It's entirely possible that the Shrubbery will remain unused and grow cobwebs. But, like I said, it's nice to know it's there.

In general you can post what you like. The Clubhouse belongs to the Club, and it's up to the members what we do with it. I'm not going to be breathing over your shoulder making sure you play nicely the whole time. I expect everyone to be adult enough to know how to behave (and when and where not to  ).

<Edit> If you want a key, see me behind the bike sheds after lights out. </Edit>

Me too.

I presume we're able to propose amendments to these guildelines if, as time goes on, they become less appropriate?

They're up for discussion. The forum belongs to the League/Sorority. So if folks don't like them, then we can change them, given proper justification, of coure :yawinkle: . Personally I'd rather err on the side of being liberal rather than proscriptive, however :partyman: :weedman: .

Sounds fair to me. I've always believed in total free speech short of incitement to violence, this seems to fit the bill subject to good manners.
